The government of China is keen to develop the tourism potential of Goldmud city. There is a salt lake nearby, for instance, which will soon be pulling in droves of 'em. A minibus from the main square travels to the 'salt town' itself, where the intrepid adventurer can disembark to confront one of the worst 21st century lifestyle hells imaginable. Take a swim in this salt pond, if so inclined.
