Communist Stars in Western Mongolia

Communist iconography still abounds in the architecture and monuments of Mongolian provincial capitals like Olgii. The centerpiece of the town square is this silver star of Communism.

This was my favorite of all.

Most of the stars had been subtly incorporated into the designs of the buildings, as with this one [at the topmost part of the decorations].
A hillside visible from the town has had a white star painted or chiseled into the rock face. It may be a bit hard to make out on this smaller picture.
